ABOUT A NATURAL HOME
A Natural Home, Inc. (ANH) is a 501(c)(3), tax exempt, charitable organization established to improve the lives of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities including visual, cognitive, motor limitations, physical and/or learning disabilities. It is not unusual for a person to have multiple disabilities. ANH was organized in 2003 by families of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
RECENT WORK
A Natural Home (ANH) sponsored a Christmas party, at the SW Waterfront Phillips Restaurant where 80 plus adults with a range of developmental disabilities, dined, took photos, and enjoyed a live band.
ANH provided creative art projects for young adult students at Mamie D. Lee for the school year 2012-2013, on a volunteer basis and a community partner. Mamie D Lee, was a special education school in Washington DC that opened in 1971 for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities ages 3 through 21. Mamie D. Lee later relocated to a new building with a modern architectural design to meet the social, education and physical needs of the students. The new location had one of the largest community gardens in DC. Mamie D. Lee closed in 2016.
Since 2012, ANH has offered monthly Arts & Craft Classes at local libraries in Washington DC where the students make functional items in each class for use or to give as gifts. Items to wear include hats, socks, and scarfs made with looms. Some of the household items crafted were scented bath salts, mosaic coasters, framed artwork, scented bath salts, and night lights. At the end of each class, students take their crafted items home. The classes and supplies are free.
On December 14, 2019, ANH hosted its first annual Gift Making Gala at North Michigan Park Recreation Center. As always, it was a free event with Subway sandwiches, Christmas treats, music, and gift making activities.
In 2022 ANH will host online Bingo games with prizes for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

So let's be careful where he's sent;
We want his life to be content.
Please, Lord, find the parents who
Will do a special job for You.
They will not realize right away
The leading role they're asked to play.
But with this child sent from above
Comes stronger faith and richer love.
As soon they'll know the privilege given
In caring for the gift from Heaven.
Their precious charge, so meek and mild
Is Heaven's Very Special Child.
